Project: ELABORATION OF AGRONOMIC MANAGEMENT PROTOCOLS FOR THE INTRODUCTION OF HIGH QUALITY WHEAT VARIETIES IN HIGH RIOJA AND CHARACTERIZATION OF THEIR NUTRITIONAL AND ORGANOLEPTIC PROPERTIES

Objective of the project

General objective:Obtaining of flour suitable for the production of bread with improved organoleptic and nutritional characteristics, through high quality wheat varieties, optimizing its cultivation in La Rioja.

Technological goals:

  1. Selection of the varieties of wheat of better quality for their adaptation to the agroclimatic conditions of Rioja Alta.
  2. Identification of the most suitable agronomic management for the optimization of quality and production.
  3. Optimization of the crop, specifically, in the subscriber conditions and limitations due to the classification of the study area as vulnerable to nitrate contamination.
  4. Characterization of the wheats obtained from the technological point of view (processed), nutritional and organoleptic profile.
  5. Development of product formulations from flours of these wheats to obtain improved breads from the nutritional and sensorial point of view.

Business Objectives:

  1. Increased sustainability in La Rioja's crops, through the exchange of experiences and good practices among farmers.
  2. Increased competitiveness of Riojan farmers by increasing the quality of wheat obtained and by increased production capacity.
  3. Increased competitiveness of bakers Riojanos, for the use of these flours for the elaboration of Pan Sobado of La Rioja, in which at least 30% of the flour must come from Rioja wheat.

The project will be developed during 4 consecutive campaigns in order to contemplate a greater climatic variability and thus obtain more conclusive results.

Participants

ARAG-ASAJA. It is the most important agrarian professional organization of La Rioja and, therefore, the one that best represents the interests of the sector. His great knowledge of the problems of the same makes it the ideal partner to define the scope of the project and its diffusion among the farmers of Rioja.

 

SAR Company through which ARAG-ASAJA provides services to its partners. Among its usual activities is advice to farmers. This direct contact will be of vital importance for monitoring the experimental plots.

 

CTIC-CITA. Technological center of reference within the agri-food sector in La Rioja. His extensive knowledge of the industry and his experience in the realization of R + D + i projects make him the ideal partner to undertake the project in its industrial processing side and its subsequent diffusion in the agro-industrial sector.
